Default Rellik/Liar

I like a good police drama and was hoping to see one, or possibly two on Monday evenings both by the same writers. Last week we went with the BBC and Rellik - Killer backwards - which didn't engage us at all. None of the characters seemed the least bit sympathetic and the idea of starting at the end of the story and telling it backwards just made it ridiculously confusing - style over substance.

In the week we caught up with ITV's Liar - at least this has the benefit of starting the story at the beginning and being filmed in one of our favourite places Deal on the Kent coast. It's amazing that simply by sticking tablecloths on the tables in the bog standard family cafe at the end of the concrete pier and filming it by night you can transform it into a quite glamorous restaurant! This was OK but nothing wonderful.

So nothing wonderful that I fell asleep watching the second episode last night and woke up to find Joanne Froggatt breaking into Ioan Gruffudd's house because for some inexplicable reason, he had told her on their first date that he kept his front door key under the gnome which stands next to it. I then found myself thinking that it's a long time since I've seen any Hornblower and how good that was and how I'd quite like to see some of them again instead of all this tosh

We enjoyed the two Cormoran Strike stories on the Beeb - they were clever and the two main characters were good and very well cast - it reminded me a bit of Shoestring from donkeys years back, but I really can't wait until we get the new series of Happy Valley and Line of Duty!

I've not read the books but we really liked the TV version. They did The Cuckoo's Calling and The Silkworm. Give them and look and see what you think Apparently they've filmed another one which they will be showing later but then we've got to wait for J K Rowling to write some more.
