Default World Book Day

It's World Book Day today, so the inevitable question is what is your favourite book?

And if you had to, which book character would you dress up as and why?

My favourite story is Dickens' A Christmas Carol, but my favourite non Christmas book is Rogue Male by Geoffrey Household, a cracking tale of a lone 'hunter' escaping after being captured by the entourage of an unnamed German dictator after attempting to assassinate him.

Which character for me?? Not sure, I'll have to have a think about that!

Iím not really a classic book reader. I think my favourite novel is The Shell Seakers.
Favourite books as a child. Jillís pony books.

If I dressed up I would have to be Tinkerbell as Peter Pan is my favourite Disney film.

Haha, I was thinking about this on the way to work too! I don't really have a favourite book character really, I remember reading 'Of Mice and Men' by John Steinbeck when I was at school and absolutely loved it. No idea what character I would dress up as though? As a child I always loved Goldilocks and the Three Bears so maybe Goldilocks! Maybe Stieg Larsson's Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Series... I always loved Lisbeth Salander as a character! Oooh or George RR Martin's Game of Thrones... but which character to choose, there's so many good ones!!

We had several people - kids and adults come into the shop, dressed up. The best one by far was 'Dorothy', complete with sparkling ruby slippers, she was one of the teachers from a local school.

Scarlett O'Hara was pretty good too!

It took me a few hours, but I would liked to have been the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come...

Hmmm - my favourite books at the moment are The Chronicles of St Mary's by Jodi Taylor - hardly 'classics', but very enjoyable if you like history and time travel.

If I was going to be a character from them, I'd be Mrs Partridge because she's really Kleio, Muse of History and immortal daughter of Zeus.

I was a bit torn between that series of books and Game of Thrones - if I'd chosen GoT, I'd have been either Brienne of Tarth or Arya Stark!

Good thread, Linda!

Yep, I was thinking Arya Stark as I don't think I could have pulled off Brienne of Tarth! I'm far too short!

I suspect I resemble Mildred Hubbell today (the Worst Witch) as I've been in the dock since 9am (don't worry it was a training event!!)

I suspect I should probably dress up as Vera the detective as so many people tell me I am like her anyway

Oooo! Angie!! What did you 'do'??

I've been thinking and reading your posts - I'll have to be Mavis Cruet from Wil O' The Wisp!!

But that pink frock will have to go!!
