I love Springwatch! :stars:
It's a shame Bill Oddie isn't presenting this year, I hope he makes a good recovery. The new presenter Chris Packham seems ok though.

As long-time, devoted Oddie-haters, the hubba and me thought it might be bearable this year - but this ghastly bloke who has twouble wif his 'R's is almost as pompous and condescending - and seemingly quite as willing to put up with the shrieking laughter of Hysterical Humble who would probably still keep laughing if someone set her hair on fire!
The peripheral presenters are great though - Simon, the badger chap, the bloke with long hair, and tonight's star - the 'amateur' photographer and naturalist who actually had the best footage of the evening. And a poem.
To be honest, if it wasn't for Orlando, Solomon and Leo, who sit on a specially placed stool and watch avidly, I don't know if we'd bother.
Incidentally, did you all know that if the Conservative Party are elected, it is their avowed intent to exterminate our native badgers? :eeeek:

Gracious - thats terrible - however all they would have to do is send them to Hurstbourne Tarrant - there is one dead on the road there a week, why oh why they cant do something to stop it happening is maddening.. :(

We all loved Springwatch last night...Mimi kept going to look behind the TV to see where the birds were!!
The boys (human) now want to have Badgers in the Utility room. Don't know how Monty & Mimi will take to that!

Those baby badgers were so cute
Sadly the Welsh assembly government is already supporting a badger cull because of misinformation on badgers spreading bovine TB. :(

I wish they'd leave the poor old badgers alone :(
As most milk is pasturized the risk of humans catching TB from cows is miniscule. Without wanting to sound like a rabid BNP member, you stand a far greater chance of catching it in a crowd of east Europeans with colds - but I don't remember the Government suggesting a general cull of Russians in the UK

I didn't want to say that, Carole - for the same reasons as you - and at the risk of sounding racist, on the three occasions my department had to be closed for deep cleaning and all of the staff screened for Tb - one scare came from an Indian doctor whose entire family turned out to have contracted it from their grandmother, the next was from a Chinese family (who'd been burning their infected tissues etc on the burners of the takeaway they owned - tracing their contacts must have been a joy for Public Health) and the third from a Sri Lankan seaman who had a massive tubercular growth to his knee but only 'became ill' when his ship docked in the Tyne!
And not a badger in sight!

didnt watch last night hubby had holby city on the tv - but shall see it this evening - enjoy the marine life sections specially the rockpools they did this week - wonderful family fun on hols at the seaside - unless the crabs care about being disturbed too much form the mud? not so keen on foxes or badgers sorry - a fox had three of our hens last spring made such a mess - but the bird sections are fascinating love to look at the nesting sites on screen and the scottish programmes about the wild cats - also those polecats - perfect !

Could I add arrogant, self righteous and condescending to your list???
Mr Packham is almost single handedly responsible for us having to move house last year and also the desertion of an ancient rookery by thousands of rooks.
He was warned by the RSPB and English Nature not to keep publicising the exact location of the rookery but he took it upon himself to do the opposite resulting in our quiet little hamlet (12 houses) being beseiged by upto 100 cars a day at the weekends over one autumn/winter.
The abuse, lack of privacy and mess from the public was unbearable and several of us moved..............including the rooks.
This man replied to our complaints with such a self righteous attitude he obviously doesn't actually care for the wildlife he exposes and is only interested in self promotion.
I hate the man and will never watch a program with him in it again..............
(rant over..........sorry!!)

Don't be sorry - I'm delighted to have a more cogent reason for disliking him - the adoration for him on the BBC boards is sickening!

wouldn't it be great to be able to phone vote off presenters we dislike!
No Bill Oddie this year??? Chris Packham is my sister-in-laws cousin.
