Remember new series starts tonight BBC1 9.00pm.
According to my paper the writers have been 'busy filling in the chasms' in Keeley Hawes character so 'a newer, smarter, more fully rounded DI Drake takes centre stage and commands it from the outset'
...... but Gene Hunt's still there :wowspring:
It's still not as good as Life on Mars but it's better than nothing

Me neither - hopefully, I can still fade bl**dy 'Alex Drake' out - but even if I can't quite manage that, it's still worth the suffering for Gene, Chris, Ray and the music! :D
Roll on 9pm! :iconbigg:

Oh, Lord, how I've missed Gene and the boys - so many good bits and one liners, I think I'll have to watch it again on iPlayer since our telly kept suddenly switching itself off and the cats and me had to hurtle up the stairs like stampeding Gardarene swine in reverse to catch the end - it was worth it for Chris's striptease - priceless!:D
PS: I'm secretly thrilled about the telly turning temperamental - I've wanted a new and bigger one for ages now but Silas Marner (the hubba) has been digging his heels in and saying the old crock was 'perfectly okay'!

It was alright I suppose :dunno: but the whole concept is definately getting weaker the longer it goes on and pehaps the 80s aren't that far back in a lot of people's memories to make them seem that different to now - or is that I'm just because I'm getting old?
Her hair is better in this - mine was much like that in the 80s - a half grown out perm - it looked much better than it does now all straight
A lot of Fun Boy Three in the beackground ...

I have 15 mins left to watch as I had to dash to WW - but Im loving it so far - the music is much more what I remember of the 80's :hooray:
Caught up, cracking telly! :happyhappy:

I don't know - it just doesn't seem to be doing anything for me. It's turned into a "name that tune first" competion between me and OH which I won last night as he thought The Jam's A Town Like Malice was Elvis Costello, but I knew better.
If they use one of my very favourite tracks of 1982 The Associates Country Club http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTXquAe25vI&feature=related with the long gone, beautiful Billy Mackenzie I might be happier!

The Chief Constable here calls my boss Gene Hunt! He's an older guy and likes things doing the right way (old fashioned way!). In fact the Chief just came in and said... "did you see Ashes to Ashes last night Andrea" (in his strong Lancashire accent!) He cracks me up. The thing is Ashes to Ashes is more like real life than the Bill ever will be! :catwink: The Fraud Squad here used to have a First Aid cabinet in their office many years ago and when it was opened up it contained optics with various alcoholic drinks! No joke!!

Are we still watching?
I got slightly distracted by the cardigan in last night's episode and have desperately been trying to think who the designer might be - I knitted a lot in the 1980s - and after a lot of Googling I am guessing Sarah Dallas but it probably isn't. Knitwear apart, I enjoyed last night's episode more than previous ones.

It was great last night preffered it to last weeks. I found that one a bit difficult to watch as it kept conjuring up horrible images in my mind of animal experiments.
The cardi reminded me a bit of the one Starskey used to wear! Same era obviously.
Loveing Gene too!! The best oneliners!!!! Paul & I sit in fits of giggles watching it every week.

I don't care about the plots or the acting - just love, love, love the music :)
Well, I did my A Levels in 1988 and grew up with this sort of music :D

Perhaps it's me, but I have to keep reminding myself that it's supposed to be set 25 years ago - somehow it just doesn't seem that much different to now.
