http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00j3ktd BBC2 tonight at 8.30 looks interesting. Years ago I used to make up a lot of herbal stuff but gave up doing it, hopefully this will give me inspiration to take it up again. I'm already planning on making my own elderflower cordial this year - at the moment we are at the having to buy little bottles of wine simply to get some bottles to put the cordial in - well it's a great excuse!

your memorys not good andrea, whait til you hit the mid fifties like me? whoops! we watched this my accident last night - interesting - these days most of us dont like to take too many gp items and some of these old herbals are stilll as valid as ever - things like hop and levendar pillows - well its easy to go get a lavendar plant from local garden centre, florists or farmers market stalls, just let it grow in a plant pot then when it flowers cu some sprigs tie them up to dry then you have somw sweet smelling fresh local lavendar to use say in small sachets or beneath the pillows or inside drawers ( thats chests of drawers ladies - dont mean knickers! well, knowing you lot so well..) my MIL grows a comfry plant for making poultices for ankle or knee sprains, it also wroks well, and after all the old days the monks made the remedies for the whole villages from their veg gardens and woodlands..recall the tv series Cadfeal?

I've slept with a herb pillow for most of my life now. I think I've "done" most of them although hop isn't one of my favourites (hops are full of pollen - I don't know how anyone with allergies would get on with it). Apparently Roy's mum used to go hop picking when he was little and he'd just sleep peacefully all day in the corner of the field (or garden as I should properly call it) so it works!

Chamomile is nice in a pillow and marjoram. My favourite mixture is lavender, lemon verbena and Australian mint bush, which has the most heavenly smell of amy plant, but isn't very easy to find.
