Did anyone else see it? I don't like Thomas Hardy, it's all far too depressing, but it looked lovely.

I think the message we should all take from it is go nowhere alone with a slimeball when there is a blue fog rolling in :eeeek: (it was blue wasn't it? I thought I'd stumbled into an episode of Doctor Who and was waiting for the lovely David Tennant to rescue her)

"Thats a bit sad" Roy said at the end ... little does he know that it's all downhill from here

I really really enjoyed it :)

For some reason, I was obsessed with Tess when I was younger and read the book probably a dozen times - it was lovely to see it brought to life, although I must confess I've forgotten most of the story

I couldn't face it, I need some escapism in my life not Old Thomas and his gloom and doom!

I thought Gemma Arterton looked perfect for the part - she's also Lizzie Bennet in Lost in Austen, although you didn't see much of her. She's a local girl, and it's nice to see someone local do well (we don't have that many of them :D)

one of mine, and my father's favourite films! I always cry though!

Same here - I don't mind a bit of irony in a story, but when I was forced to read 'The Return of the Native' for 'A' levels, I was practically suicidal - and 'Tess' is at least ten times worse than that one! :(

It used to be my favourite book. I named my first rescue cat after poor tragic Tess.

I watched the first episode last night on 'Catch Up'....

I am sure I have seen it before, but indeed I cannot for the life of me remember what happens.

i was supposed to read this for A level but to be honest i didn't.. i cuoldn't stand the lengths Thomas Hardy went to describe an inanimate object like a rock.. it bored me silly, but i loved the story.. i thought it was a shame he couldn't just get there quicker ...

I think she's a brilliant Tess.

Don't ever be tempted to read 'The Return of the Native', Jen - he spends the entire first chapter droning on about 'The Heath'!

I've been catching up with it all - at least you can say that no matter how grim you think your life is, it can't be as bad as what poor Tess suffered! Plus it looks so gorgeous .... in a muddy, cold grim way ..... and reminds me so much of one of my favourite paintings The Vagrants by Fred Walker.

it went on too long too slow - we switched over last night to watch a harry potter film instead - found tess to be such a sad story -
