Yes - it's nearly time for SCD, and my favourite dance forum is gearing up for it - here's my take on the 'curtain-raiser'
" Well, amici, what can I say apart from the only real surprise for me was that Russia didn't win? I sincerely hope our Soviet chums aren't all sulking and considering cutting off the fuel supplies to their satellite nations by way of reprisals!
I knew I was in for a good night of laughs when the ashen-faced eejit Claudia Winklepicker appeared fresh from being dragged backwards and forwards through a hedge several times, adroitly avoiding 'Hair and Makeup', then squashing herself into what must have been a frock bought from the children's department to save on VAT - not a good move with such bony shoulders and hunched posture - I half-expected her to launch into a speech from Richard III at any moment.
The only dances which stand out in my mind are the barefoot loonies from Denmark - a sort of Torville and Dean without the benefit of ice - and the matching pair of horrors who danced to 'Phantom of the Opera' in what surely must have been home-made fancy-dress costumes, the look of terrified dismay on that woman's face when the bloke dropped to his knees and proposed to her will live in my nightmares for a long time! :eeeeek:
Special mention goes to the Dutch woman who pranced around with her singing grandson and showed the entire European Continent her bare @rse - the pair of happy, shiny clog-dancers from Ireland - those two blighters who turned up looking as if they were angling for a part in the next Daz 'Cleaner Close' commercial before the female part of the sketch tore off her overall to reveal a gold frock, the Australian Greeks, the very scary Russians, who, despite the fact that her frock was nowhere near finished, went ahead regardless.
They all made me laugh so heartily I needed to take Ventolin - twice - the hubba threatened to switch the telly off if I didn't calm down and get a grip, seemingly having forgotten that it was him who started me off roaring with laughter by jumping up to demonstrate his own version of Irish dancing and coming a cropper by tripping over one of the cats! http://www.theblueroom.me.uk/forum/smileys/smiley29.gif
Vinthent and Luitha looked very good to me, even though I've gone off Luitha somewhat since she turned up in 'The Bill' playing a policewoman who can never quite manage to take her hands out of her pockets and looks like a kid who won a 'be a policeperson for a day' contest - never mind - I love little Vinthent and naively believed that since they'd done what looked like a proper danthe, they'd get high markth from the judgeth - thome hope!
In summary, quite enjoyable tosh, best viewed with quite a few G&Ts on board and no expectation of winning - the most irksome part for me was the input of Winklepicker and Norton - surely at least one of the presenting team should have some personality and charisma? http://www.theblueroom.me.uk/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif
Never mind - only a week to go now! :D
