View Full Version : The Dark Knight
It was brilliant but quite grueling! Very dark and very violent :holysheep:

This is the 2nd? The one in the cinema is the new series with Christian Bale, very different from the Tim Burton ones.

Is it actually gruesome, Leah? Or just fighting? Trying to decide whether to see it at the cinema!

The review I read said it was pretty graphic and although you can take children they reviewer thought it would be too gruesome for them ... which means it would be too gruesome for me!

and me
I'll be honest, I would not say it was at all suitable for kids ... I hate this whole 12A certificate thing, either a film is suitable for kids so it is cert for kids [pg,u] or it isn't suitable and they shouldn't be allowed in :( There is no LOWER age limit on a 12A and parents wouldn't know till they were in there watching it, and I think they really pushed it with this one, I wouldn't want my kids to see it yet....
It's an excellent film, really tense thriller, and Heath's Joker is a masterful performance, really amazing.
The violence doesn't have lots of blood, but it is pretty full on [the disappearing pencil trick :catsick1:]
Really good film though.

So is the one we watched the other night, the one before Dark Knight?
What was it called? the one Before Dark Knight is ' Batman Begins' with Christian Bale and Liam Kneeson.
There were three or four Batman movies made a few yrs ago which are very different ?

My grandsons were going yesterday with their Mum...Haven't spoke to them yet to find out what they thought of it.
Every single one of the Batman films are very different from one another...
Who were the last four actors who took the part of Batman??
Val Kilmer
George Clooney *drool*
Christian Bale
??? and there was another one I'm sure.....maybe not.

Like Lorraine said it was an excellent film!
I really enjoyed it but at the same time was rather disturbed by heath ledgers final performance. I have spoken to many of my collegues at work (all in psychiatry!) about how he acted his character and we are all of the same opinion that he was perhaps not too well when he played the part as the character was a little too real and convincing to a level that none of us has seen before.
But having said all that I would still go back and watch it again tommorow!

It's strange you should say this - I've not seen it yet, but a couple of my friends (both psychiatric nurses) said the exact same thing as your colleagues - that it wasn't so much a 'performance' as a prolonged psychotic episode and very disturbing to watch!

I haven't seen it, but I did wonder if it was playing the role which contributed to his sad end.

The hubba burst our bubble a bit by saying that it's all very well being wise after the event and queried whether we'd still be pontificating so wisely about Heath Ledger's mental health if he hadn't committed suicide!:angelic

That pretty much hits the nail on the head unfortunatly.

I can honestly say I would still be thinking that something was not right with performance even if he was still alive and well.

I wonder if maybe we shoud all be saying what a brilliant actor he was to be able to get you all thinking as you are....
Was it proved that he actually killed himself on purpose and it wasnt an accident?

I have just looked it up and have seen that the coroner/ME reported a verdict of accidental death by abusing drugs:
It states definitively: "We have concluded that the manner of death is accident, resulting from the abuse of prescribed medicines

Yes, I think you're right - I haven't seen it, but what my pals told me just confirmed what you observed - mind you, we also agreed (no offense, Nancy) that even if he was psychotic all through the filming, it probably passed unnoticed in Hollywood - I mean - you don't notice a tree in a forest, do you? :catwink:
That's an interesting verdict, Anna - but, just to continue the discussion, suicide's a strange phenomenon - you can hardly ever get a coroner to give a suicide verdict in Catholic countries like Southern Ireland, Italy and Spain because of the religious connotations - I just wonder if it's just as difficult when the deceased person is a celeb?

I just cant see it was on purpose after everything Ive read about how his relationship was with his daughter, I just dont think its something a person with young kids does so readily.. ??
However, prescription drug abuse is something reportedly done a lot amongst celebs?
I guess we will never know...
He was reported to be very poorly during the filming of his last flick [Terry Gilliam was it?] Long, late hrs in the cold and the wet. He was said to be feverish with a bad chest. Living alone and ill, frighteningly easy to grab the wrong bottle by accident.
I think he was an amazing actor. He was young, he probably would have sorted himself out in time. :(

Also not to mention insurance reasons and sensetivity to the deceased's family.

Val Kilmer
I loved Val Kilmer's batman, the outfit really showed off his perfect mouth :gimmeekiss:
I haven't seen the film but i don't think its disputed that he was a good actor, and he could just be playing the part really well, as other actors have done in similar/more disturbing roles?

I saw it Saturday night - and it is FAB!! I have to admit to hiding behind my jumper a few times when the Joker was telling how he got his scars!
The Joker was amazing, totally amazing, the way he licked his lips was very clever - it made me cringe so much!!

Yes very good, I too thought the lick licking was greusome too.
Still looking for Robin. I think that Batman has taken the elixier of youth and Robin has turned into Michael Caine!

I/we watched it last night,a very far cry from the Burt Wards Batman...KAPOW-ZAP-KABOOSHHHHHHH....
It was very violent I must agree, but then no more the Goodfeller's or any of those films.
I thought the part of the Joker was brilliant albeit a little deranged...but it's only acting after all. So all in all I give it an 8 out of 10.....THWACKKKKK
