Other than, they are they best ::D

Hi Rachel,
Ive always wanted a cat but was just waiting for the right time to get one.
After talking with my partner, he said he would prefer to get a pedigree cat that would be kept in doors and after researching different cat breeds we both decided that siamese was the cat for us.
Also my partner grew up with a siamese, persian x
Our 5 year old autistic son is our only child and because of his difficulties we made the decision not to have any more children so that we could give all our attention to help our son with his autism.
Were not worried about how our son will react to a cat becoming part of the family because he loves cats and our son is very placid and laid back (this being a big part of my sons problem, cutting himself off from the rest of the world)
We both felt that because we werent going to have anymore children that there was something missing in our family and we think a siamese would fit in great. Especially now that my son has started full time school and as i dont work i get quite lonely now so i cant wait for the company.
Im sure i will have lots of questions for everyone over the next few months, and any advice and help would be great thanks.

Oh Elise ((hugs))
It must have been a very difficult decision for you to have made. I think i would have made the same choice to be honest.
But i definately agree that a siamese will be fantastic company for your little boy and yourself.
I can imagine that it will be fantastic for him in the way of communicating and bringing himself out of himself, if you know what i mean? :)
Why don't you have a look in the Maternity unit and hubs bubs and see all the kitties on there. Will definately cheer you up if you ever feel down.
I do it all the time ::D Love seeing pics of babies from the board.

Having an animal (of any type) around the house will REALLY help your son. Our friends little girl was very shy and wouldn't talk at all. They went and bought a Boston Terrier pup (who I have TOTALLY fallen in love with!!) and the little girl just came on in leaps and bounds and is now a very confident little thing... and has an attitude to boot bless her!! :) I think getting a siamese (as they are very much like dogs - love to retrieve, very protective over their family members) will be one of the best things you can ever do for your little boy! :)

Thanks for all your encourgement everyone,
Ive only been on this site a few days and im already addicted lol its so nice to hear from such friendly people.
Alot of people told us that the best pet to get for our son would be a dog, but my son is so scared of dogs he wont even walk past one in the street!
So thats why we decided to go for a cat and especially because my son love cats and all the kittens or cats of friends he has been around he is so gentle with.
We decided to go for a male siamese, do they have better temprements than females or vice versa?
Thanks
rachel

:woho: Good news! I love it on HB too! Am totally addicted! ::D
I think that siamese are so like dogs. Especially when they play fetch with a screwed up piece of paper, a toy mouse or even with a pair of my knickers
I find that boys do tend to be more loving. My boy Romeo is much more loving than my girls anyway :)
But you do know Elise, you won't just be able to have one siamese?? You will definately want more

Welcome to Hubbell!!!
On the note of boys/girls, well of course both are very special and each an individual, but i have found that boys seem to be more cuddly!
I hope you find the perfect kitten for your family :)
Hi Elise! I too have a child who has needed a lot of time and attention, and I recently brought home a tabby point boy and it was the best decision I ever made. Not only do all the kids love him, but he is my own personal angel who gives me so much happiness.
With regard to books, I recently bought 'the complete siamese' by Sally Franklin [got it quite cheaply from ebay] and it has loads of info best of luck!

Hi Elise, deciding to get a siamese kitten is wonderful and so exciting for you and your family. I've had siamese for over thirty years and thoroughly recommend them as they are great with children. I've a 2 year old granddaughter and our 9 month blue point boy is so gentle with her. Before getting my latest kitten, I made sure that he was well socialised with other cats, dogs and children, I think this is very important for your son and your prospective new kitten. Contact breeders in your area, most are only too happy to tell your about their cats. A good breeder will ask you alot questions too about the home you have to offer, but its only because they want their kittens to be happy in their new homes.
Hi Elsie, Welcome to HB although a little late, you mentioned a good book to read, I think I can honestly say you will find all your questions answered on here, they are a great bunch and will give you honest opinions, Happy readings.

Hi gracie and Jan
Im still researching and looking for local breeders to prepare us for when we get a kitten next year as well as lurking on here alot lol.
Im just a little concerned that breeders wont want to rehome a kitten to us when i tell them that i have an autistic son, but im sure we will find the right kitten for us eventually.

Hi Elise,
I would sell you a kitten, its all about how the parents handle the situation and you certainly sound like you are aware and on top of the situation...
I am sure there are plenty of breeders that are understanding and would do the same..

I would also be willing to sell you a kitten and am sure that you wont have too much difficulty in finding a breeder with the right kitten for you. xx
